Getting started

Who is Math Ladder for?

Students from kindergarten to Algebra 1 who need to build fast, accurate math skills. That includes homeschoolers, students who want extra practice alongside school, and students who are ahead and want to keep going.

A parent, guardian, tutor or teacher (18 or older) runs the account. Students don't need an account.

Is this a full math curriculum?

No. Math Ladder is daily practice that makes math facts and methods quick and automatic. Use it alongside a curriculum or class that teaches new ideas and problem solving.

Each step starts with a short "New skill" box with worked examples, so a student can practice something they have already been taught.

Do students work on a screen?

No. Everything is printed on paper. You print each day's session from the parent app, the student works on the sheets, and you mark them with the answer key.

Where should my student start?

Start with a placement check. It is a short printed test for one stage, and it is free for every stage. Enter the score in the app and it tells you where to begin. See finding a starting stage.

What can I use for free?

Stage 3 (addition within 10) is completely free, including daily sessions and the full stage book. You can try Stage 3 sheets without an account. Placement checks are free for every stage.

Daily practice

How long does it take each day?

About 30 minutes, five days a week. For the youngest learners (Stages 1 to 3), about 15 minutes.

Each day you print one session: that day's new sheet, plus extra practice on skills the student has already learned. These times are estimates, so stop when the session is done.

How does a step work?

Each step takes five days. Days 1 to 4 build the skill. Day 5 starts with the checkpoint, a short timed sheet. Enter the score in the app, and it tells you whether to move on to the next step or repeat some practice first.

Why are checkpoints timed?

Being fluent means being both accurate and quick. A student who gets every answer right but slowly is still working each one out, so the skill isn't automatic yet.

The target time is printed on each checkpoint. Stages 1 and 2 are not timed.

What if my student misses a checkpoint?

The app tells you exactly what to repeat. If it was close, the student repeats a few practice sheets from the same step. If not, they go back to the step before for a short review.

If the same checkpoint is missed three times in a row, the app suggests a day or two away from that skill, working on it with objects, drawings or a number line instead. More of the same pages usually isn't the answer.

Can I print a sheet again?

Yes. Everything you make can be downloaded again from the app. When a student repeats a step, Math Ladder makes new versions they haven't seen, so they practice the skill instead of remembering the page.

What paper size do I need?

US Letter (8.5 × 11 in). Print at 100% or "Actual size" so the spacing is right.

Buying

Is it a subscription?

No. Nothing renews automatically.

A single stage or a bundle is a one-time purchase that gives one student access for good. The All-Access Pass gives one student every stage for one year. We email a reminder before a pass ends, and you decide whether to buy another year. See pricing.

What happens when a pass ends?

The student's progress is kept. You can't make or download sheets for stages they don't own until you buy access again. Stages bought on their own are never affected.

Why is each purchase for one student?

Math Ladder keeps track of each student's progress and the sheets they have already had, so it can always give them new versions. It also means each receipt shows which student a purchase was for, which many ESA programs ask for.

Is there a discount for more than one student?

Yes, on the All-Access Pass. A second student's pass is discounted when another student in your family already has an active pass, or when you buy the passes together. The discount is shown in your cart. See pricing.

Can I use an ESA or school choice account?

Many Education Savings Account (ESA) and school choice programs cover supplemental curriculum like Math Ladder.

Every order comes with an itemized receipt showing each item, the student it is for, the date, the amount paid and the seller's details. You can download it from your Orders page at any time. You can also add a student's full legal name for receipts. It is printed only on receipts, never on sheets.

Each program has its own rules about what it covers and how it pays, so check with yours before you buy. We can't promise a program will approve a purchase. If your program needs a different document, email support@mathladder.net.

How do refunds work?

Email support@mathladder.net with your receipt number. If we refund an order, the money goes back to the card you paid with, and we email you to confirm. Banks usually take 5 to 10 business days to show it. Access from a refunded item ends when it is refunded.

Do you have codes for schools or groups?

Yes. We can create access codes for a class, co-op or program. Each family enters the code in their account to unlock access for one student. Email support@mathladder.net to set this up.

Privacy and your account

What do you store about my students?

Only what Math Ladder needs: the name to print on sheets (a first name is enough), an optional grade to suggest a starting stage, an optional full name for receipts, and their progress. We don't ask for photos, birthdays, schools or addresses, and students never sign in. See the privacy policy.

Do you use ads or tracking?

No. There are no ads, no analytics and no third-party trackers. The only cookie keeps you signed in.

How do I delete my account or download my data?

Both are on your Account page. Downloading your data takes one click. Deleting your account takes effect immediately.
