How to do it
Doubling: multiply by 2 for each doubling time. Half-life: halve for each half-life. Interest: multiply by (1 + rate) each year.
Example problems
- $5000 is invested at 50% interest, compounded once a year. How many dollars is it worth after 2 years?
- A town of 300 people doubles in size every 5 years. How many people live there after 15 years?
- $2000 is invested at 10% interest, compounded once a year. How many dollars is it worth after 2 years?
- A sample of 160 grams has a half-life of 6 days: every 6 days, half of it is left. How many grams are left after 18 days?
